{"id":303,"date":"2015-08-04T19:27:37","date_gmt":"2015-08-04T19:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/?p=303"},"modified":"2015-08-04T22:24:35","modified_gmt":"2015-08-04T22:24:35","slug":"amiga-4000-mb-memoryhack-without-motherboard-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/?p=303","title":{"rendered":"Amiga 4000 64MB Memoryhack, without motherboard-cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A while ago I found a hack how to add 64MB or RAM into the Amiga 4000 motherboard:<\/p>\n<p>To get there just check\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.amibay.com\/showthread.php?57613-64mb-fastram-to-your-A4000-mobo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amibay.com\/showthread.php?57613-64mb-fastram-to-your-A4000-mobo\">http:\/\/www.amibay.com\/showthread.php?57613-64mb-fastram-to-your-A4000-mobo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>ONE SIDENOTE: this hack will NOT work on Rev D Amiga 4000 (those with the 030 soldered onboard) or the A4000T<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But this required cutting traces on the motherboard. so. how to do it WITHOUT cutting wires? \u00a0well some work but this is how I did it:<\/p>\n<p>First of all you will need some files to program the GAL etc. and here is one place to download the files:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MFiles.zip\">64MFiles<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MFiles.zip\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This DOES require alot of soldering. so the above link might be more EASY. but then you need to cut traces.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So first I had to remove the RAMSEY chip, I do that with my hot-air station.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mrem-ramsey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-312\" alt=\"64Mrem-ramsey\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mrem-ramsey-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mrem-ramsey-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mrem-ramsey-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>so when I have removed the ramsey, I clean up the pads:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mramsey-gone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-311\" alt=\"64Mramsey-gone\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mramsey-gone-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mramsey-gone-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mramsey-gone-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(shiny picture.. :)) \u00a0nice and clean. also removed the solder on the U860 spot.<\/p>\n<p>Now solder one wire from U890 pin 45 to U860 pin 14, and one wire from U89 pin 46 to U860 pin 13.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mwires.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-319\" alt=\"64Mwires\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mwires-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mwires-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mwires-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Mwires.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also solder a longer wire to U860 pin 17. (this will be a wire to the back of the board to the SIMM sockets. put it trough a VIA hole or so. (the big hole you see is for the CPU card spacer.. not recomended to use). \u00a0also one of the hacks reuires cutting pins of the U860. but to be sure. just insulte the pins with a piece of kapton tape:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MGAL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-308\" alt=\"64MGAL\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MGAL-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MGAL-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MGAL-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64MGAL.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now they will not be connected, no cutting needed so solder in a socket in U860 now (the wires shold be connected so take care), and now well as this hack requires cutting traces to the ramsey. \u00a0Actually to pin 45 and 46 that was used above. \u00a0so instead of cutting, insulate them with more Kaptontape:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minsulate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-310\" alt=\"64Minsulate\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minsulate-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minsulate-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minsulate-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minsulate.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now they will not be connected to the RAMSEY chip. \u00a0 Well now it is time for the pull-up resistors needed to &#8220;fool&#8221; the ramsey chip: \u00a0I decided to put them UNDER the ramseychip as I will put it in a socket.<\/p>\n<p>so I just take a normal socket:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-317\" alt=\"64Msocket\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and remove the bottom-plastic plate. and locate pin 45 and 46, solder a small wire to it and solder a 4.7KOhm restistor to them:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-318\" alt=\"64Msocket2\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket2-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Msocket2.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I insulate them with a shrinktube.<\/p>\n<p>Solder it to the socket: (remember to skip pin 45 and 46 as you insulated them with kaptontape)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minplace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-309\" alt=\"64Minplace\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minplace-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minplace-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minplace-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/64Minplace.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and solder the 2 loose wires to pin 47. \u00a0let the resistors be even in the MIDDLE of the socket. so you can push down the Ramsey later.<\/p>\n<p>Now. time to fix the wire to the SIMM socket.
