On this board it was soldered in, some seems to have sockets.<br \/>\nBut I removed the osciallator<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2noosc.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"csmk2noosc\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2noosc-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And as the holed are quite big, I could push in small socket-holders:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cdsmk2socket.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cdsmk2socket\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cdsmk2socket-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I decided to put in all 6 holes. \u00a0so I can support both type of oscillators.<\/p>\n<p>OK.<\/p>\n<p>That was the easy part. now we have to change the voltage to the CPU. \u00a0This is EXTREMLY important. failure if this WILL fry your cpu.<\/p>\n<p>you will need one\u00a0LT1085CM-3.3 voltage regulator 3.3Volts and three\u00a01N4001 equivalent diodes. (some say that this is not needed..)<\/p>\n<p>I found one voltageregulator in my drawers:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vregulator1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-361\" alt=\"csmk2vregulator\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vregulator1-300x201.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vregulator1-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vregulator1.png 678w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is too big to fit, so first bend pins so you can solder it. and cut the pins. \u00a0but the part with the hole needs to be cut in half or it will simply not fit.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.5em;\">Well. the voltregulator-area on the 040-Board looks like:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-0401.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-359\" alt=\"csmk2vreg-040\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-0401-300x195.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-0401-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-0401-1024x666.png 1024w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-0401.png 1429w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So here we see a small &#8220;wire&#8221; jumper that must be moved to the opposite location. Then solder in the voltregulator and diodes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-060.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-377\" alt=\"csmk2vreg-060\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-060-300x225.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-060-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-060-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/wordpress.hertell.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/csmk2vreg-060.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The diodes I had was slightly too large.. \u00a0so not that nice here, but works fine.<\/p>\n<p>Also notice the red little ring. \u00a0you NEED to change that wire-jumper to that position, or you will send +5V into the CPU. and it WILL fry your CPU.<\/p>\n<p>now change your CPU to a 060 one. \u00a0Use a 68RC060 no LC or EC, even if they might boot, you will be wighout MMU\/FPU and that is just plain wrong in a setup like this. (actually my machine crashed using EC when I tested) IF you can get hold of a Rev 6 (71E41J marking in the corner) USE IT! It runs very cool and can be overclocked a LOT!)<br \/>\n(on ebay..
